Default Reduce size of all pictures in presentation

In PowerPoint2010 I'm trying to reduce the size of my presentation.

In PP2003 I could jut right-click the Picture and resize - and apply this to all Pictures! Easy!

Now in 2010 it seems so complicated - and with very little effect.

I select the Picture, use the ribbon-tab Picture tools - formatting - and then I can compress the Picture size. I can even uncheck a box and then the compression should apply to all Pictures. But it does not reduce the size of my presentation...

I have a 16 MB presentation - I can see that I previously have managed to reduced it to about 1,6 MB.... but forgot how!!

1. How do I re-size all pictures at once?
2. Can I see the size of individual components in my presentation?

...and what were the developers thinking when they came up with the "Ribbon"???? It seems as if they wanted to throw away everything that has proven to Work well in the past. Not only in PowerPoint - Access2010 is even worse!!!
