How do I disable the format autoshate box from appearing when I click on a text box to enlarge or reshape, or a photo to resize etc?

Why does it pop up - it is so annoying!! And everytime I click to cancel it, the thing I did click on unclicks as well.

It takes me 4 times as long to do my presentation now
