requirement – add a sprinkling of cross-references sjowing just the heading number

problem – the headings have been carefully typed in as {field}{tab}{text}, and if I use the normal "Insert > Cross-reference > Heading > Heading text" mechanism then there's an unsightly tab-driven space in the cross-reference – plus the heading text, which is not wanted in this document.
