This doesn't sound like a version problem. The problem is most likely due to the availability of the macros on the problem machine. Your description sounds like macros are involved to show/hide the content.

The questions to ask are:
1. Do the macros reside in the document or is there an attached template? If there is an attached template, does the machine with the problem have the template installed?
2. Does the machine with the problem allow macros to run with their security settings?
3. Can the user on the problem machine simply go into their options and show all 'hidden text' to reveal the hidden content?
