The post you referred me to does not discuss the question I have.
I did some reading on the SEQ fields as you suggested. Unfortunately, they are not suitable for my purposes since the numbered paragraphs are a lot (and I mean A LOT), and they are often merged or split and so on. So I really need the automatic numbering.

Any other ideas?
