I am not sure that can be done. Afterall, Word will create a style if you do not assign one yourself. So, there will always be styles in use. So, when you clear your styles from the document you are effectively clearing your format as well. Test the process with a sample document highlighting the sample text and using the "Clear All" function of the Styles drop-down dialog box.

Of course, that is just my opinion.
