So you are trying to burn a microsoft word document file onto a CD... why not transfer the files with a Flash Drive. If you do not own one you can buy them very cheaply online. Burning CDs can sometimes cause problems.

Your CD drive may be designed for only CD-R (recordables) instead of CD-RWs (re-writeables). What does the CD label say on the top of the CD (CD-R or CD-RW)?
