No. You have to specify the currency symbol as part of the currency format. If you want the user to be able to specify the currency as well, you could delete the $ from the current field and provide a dropdown formfield with a list of currency symbols to choose from. If you have multiple such fields, but they always use the same currency, the selection need only be done in one place - you can use the 'calculate on exit' property and cross-referencing to replicate the symbol in the other locations.
