Default Contacts disconnected

In Outlook 2010, when addressing a message, if I begin typing a name or a Contact group, Outlook fills in the rest of the contact or group - as it should. However, if I then click on the name or Contact group, an error message pops up: "The name or contact group has been deleted and is no longer a valid Address Book entry. The attempted operation failed. An object could not be found." However, if I select the Address Book icon, I can see the entire list of entries and I can use them to enter the addresses - as it should be. How can I delete the "blank" address Book and "point" Outlook to the complete Address Book?
