Office 2013 Pro Plus and iPad Apps

I bought the software for my desktop and have been a faithful user of Office since Office 95. I kept hoping Office was coming to iPad and was excited that it did. However I was very upset that ONLY Office 365 people can use the apps. How come those of us who bought the pro and pro plus are left out?
