Not a stupid question. Click the arrow at the right end of the QAT (Quick Access Toolbar) and set the option to show below ribbon (where there is more room for it).
Click again and select 'More Commands'. From the Popular Commands group add 'Style' and 'Styles...' to the toolbar. The latter will indicate the style at the cursor. The other will provide ease of access for you to edit it.
