Default Problems syncing Outlook 2010 to Outlook.com

I finally decided to clean up my Hotmail account. I belong to 2 prolific email list serves that generate 25-100 emails per day. Back in 2007 I only opened what I was interested in and I stopped deleting what I didn't open. I know that was a mistake As you guessed, the emails piled up. However, in Hotmail, it was difficult to go in and clean up by subject within the subfolders or move between folders easily or delete large numbers of emails at once because I could only see 35 at a time. So I just left it for another day and now have accumulated over 80,000 emails. Yesterday I decided to connect Hotmail/Outlook.com and Outlook 2010 because I could clean up much easier by selecting thousands of emails at a time to delete after searching in specific folders for the ones I wanted to keep. The connection seemed to work and all the emails appeared in Outlook 2010 after a couple hours. I spent 4-5 hours last night going through everything and deleting most all emails and keeping only what I wanted in Outlook 2010. However, the send/receive feature to sync back and clean up Outlook.com does not seem to be working. Outlook.com still has all 80,000 plus emails and doesn't show the added folders or deleted folders or emails. When I open Outlook 2010 and hit send receive it just seems to spin and do nothing. If I open task manager (Windows 8.1) and I look at the processes and performance tabs, Outlook doesn't seem to be active - not much action in disk or memory usage or Network activity. CPU usage is about 20%. I really dread trying to clean up the emails in Outlook.com as I can only see 35 at a time and I can't seem to search only within a folder by keyword as I need to do to keep emails from each list serve separate when I put them in the save folders. I have preferences set so they download automatically into subfolders and not in the inbox. I tried going into the Outlook 2010 send/receive ribbon and into groups and edit then selected Hotmail and chose download header only as described in another post but this hasn't seemed to help. Getting the emails into Outlook 2010 seems ok. The new ones from today populated ok. Getting the changes I make in Outlook 2010 to sync in Outlook.com seems to be the problem. I have now let Outlook 2010 run for 24 hours with no change in Outlook.com. I can send email from Outlook 2010. There are error messages in synchronization logs in the sync issues folder. I can add those if helpful.
Thanks for any help.
