That's all very well, but if the tabs are in the source file, any link to it will replicate them. That's the whole point of having links...

F9 has no bearing at all on the page layout; it merely updates the field. And, since a plain text file has no portrait/landscape metadata, Word will insert it in a layout that respects the current page orientation. The mere fact that what gets inserted might be wider than it is high does not mean Word's page orientation has changed.
