Add custom text field in the Gantt chart view.
Customize the field to add the following formula:
[Resource Names] & " " & [Work]/60 & " Hours "

Right click in the Gantt chart to show the shortcut menu and select Bar Styles. Select the bar style for normal tasks, and click the Text tab. Change the field shown on the right to [Text1] or whatever text field you customized. This will show total work.

You may also find the Task Usage view valuable. I will show each task and then a line for each assignment. The view automatically shows work for each assignment.
