I have the same or similar happening. I have not determined that it happens only on auto send receive but that could fit. Outlook send/receive freezes during download. It might be that it freezes after the last message was downloaded. I must control-Alt-delete to close outlook and reopen then it works OK until the next time which could be the very next time. I have Vista and Outlook 2007.
