My 95 year old father in law is still very sharp and uses word 2002 almost every day. He prefers an Arial 14 font so I created a document in that font and placed a shortcut to the document on the desktop. Once upon a time double clicking on the shortcut would open it in word and off he went. Now when he clicks on the shortcut word opens just fine but no document opens with it. The "working" area of the screen is gray and he must go through the procedure of opening a saved document and then proceeding.

I have set up new shortcuts to test several documents but still no joy. We have looked for menu setting but have found none. We have checked user settings, etc.... He claims not to have added any software or made any changes I believe him. Also the shortcut was set up about two years ago and has worked without fail. I suspect an update may have changed something?
