First, try right-clicking on the status bar at the bottom of your screen. You can display much information about the document and your current position there by checking options.

Second, try displaying the Navigation pane. View Tab > Navigation Pane (checkbox). The navigation pane is especially helpful if you have been using the built-in heading styles to organize your document. Why use Microsoft Word’s built-in heading styles? by Shauna Kelly

These headings will also show up as you use the vertical scroll bar to scroll through your document.
