The 'VB Runtime Error 4198' you mentioned in your first post suggests an errant 3rd-party add-in. Go to File|Options|Addins and disable any not published by MS, then check if the problem has been solved. Assuming it has, re-enable the add-ins one at a time, checking again whether the problem returns. When it does, you've found the errant one. You can then try uninstalling/reinstalling whatever app that add-in belongs to.
