Default Word crashing when I save

I do a lot of word highlighting in sometimes large (c300pp / 5MB) Word document, and I've been having problems recently saving as I go along. I make a few changes and saving is slow, and if I keep making changes and trying to save, eventually Word will give up on me.

First, I get the pop-up message: "The save failed due to out of memory or disk space", and the document gets saved as a Rescue document. And if I keep on trying to save, Word crashes, and when I try to open the document again, I get the pop-up message: "Microsoft Word cannot open this file because it is an unsupported file type."

So I land up losing everything!

I reinstalled MS Office (Professional Plus 2010 - installed from disc), but the problem persists. Any ideas? Is the problem my PC?

Thanks for any advice.
