Unhappy Weird but urgent identity problem

Hi all,

Yesterday I tried to add an identity to my sister's Outlook to allow her daughter to read her emails in Outlook as well. So I created a gmail-account for her first and could successfully add it as a new identity to Outlook. The existing main identity of my sister is coupled to a seperate non-gmail email address.

Everything seemed to work out fine - after the new identity creation was finished I automatically had access to Outlook as the new identity, with only 1 sort of welcome/test email message in it.

But ... When I closed the Outlook application and tried to open it up again (in order to check which identity it would open by default), I was directly lead into some sort of configuration window, as if it was the first time I was using the Outlook application and as if nothing was configured before.
I couldn't look into it further because I had to leave urgently, but now I'm panicking a bit. is it possible that in some way all emails in the main identity will be lost forever?... All emails accessed in Outlook are not visible anymore in the webmail of the original mailprovider, only new emails can be seen through that webmail.

Sorry that I'm not able to give more detailed information atm. I'm not even sure what version of Outlook it is. But any general tip is extremely welcome! Maybe some one saw something similar before or knows how and why this is happening?

Thanks a lot for any useful comment,
Regards, G
