While I agree with Stefan that you should never save directly to removeable media - I never do - it should be pointed out that if the file is tiny (say a single page of plain text), it is likely to work out well. The problem lies with the way Word uses its temp file. It always writes to a temp file. If the document is even moderately large, or has graphics, it is the I\O back and forth that causes issues. It is NOT to be trusted. Do not save directly to removeable media from Word. Always save to your HD and then copy. Windows copy functions are way way more robust.
