I've split your post off into its own thread. Since your expectation is that macros etc will be needed to meet those needs, the non-macro approach sought in the other thread is not especially applicable. Office 2013 also offers functionality not available in Office 2003 (used by the OP in the other thread)

What is practicable depends on what your needs are. Perhaps you could give more detail on that.
