I have no reason to think this can be done. However, you can widen your open dialog box and add a column for date created. That way it will be directly displayed in the listing. Such a modification may be tied into Windows in some way. When I made the modification in one Word 2007 session, it transferred to the Open Dialog in Word 2010 and was also present in the next session of Word 2007.

This was done in Windows Vista.
