It's hard to tell what could be going wrong; have you tried creating a new distribution list (a DL) with say, just your own email addresses on it and tried to schedule a meeting with that DL? I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the original DL.

Of course, if you're interested in just getting on with life you could always just create the meeting, then Save AS an ICS file, create a regular email addressed to that same DL (preferably placing them in the BCC field, depending on your relationship with them) and add the ICS file as an attachment to that email.
