Default Excel 2010 default column width 8.09

I am working on a Dell Precision M6600 laptop and in excel the default column with is 8.09 (96 pixels) on all the other computers the default column with is 8.43 (64 pixels). This is causing format problems when we save a workbook and open it on another computer because the other computers can't format it right. I have tried changing the default column width for the cell on the laptop and still no success, the width reverts back to 8.09 when I create a new workbook. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling office with no success. Also the default row is set to 14.5 (29 pixels) where all other computer are 15 (20 pixels). I do not know if the laptop having a widescreen has anything to do with it? I have looked at 5 different computers running Office 2010 and they are all set to 8.43 for the column and 15 or the row. I have even looked at one running Office 2003 and it is 8.43 for the column and 15 for the row. I feel it has something to do on this laptop but I am not sure what? I have also tried switching the default printer and still no luck.
