compatibility pack doesn't work for Office XP

The compatibility pack worked fine to open .docx files in my older Office XP. Then I had to replace my hard drive and reinstall Office XP. I again downloaded the compatibility pack, but this time it doesn't work. When I try to open a .docx file by clicking on it, it opens in WordPad instead.
