I followed the instructions exactly, several times to be sure.
I get a clickable Hyperlink but it remains a link to the original not the merge field!

It looks like this
{HYPERLINK "{MERGEFIELD "Test_Hyper" }"}
where Test_Hyper is the link which is inserted by mail merge.
