Embedded Videos In PPT Won't Play on New Computers?
Hi all - hopefully you can help me out here. I'm pretty unskilled at powerpoint.
I have a series of powerpoints containing about 5-10 short videos each. I was excited to learn that powerpoint 2010 would embed the video by default instead of just linking to it, so I assumed that once I embedded it in the presentation, I could just save the powerpoint on a flashdrive, copy and paste it onto another computer, and see the whole presentation on that computer, videos included. It's important because I need to be able to move these presentations to a bunch of new computers.
So the steps I took:
1. I had the videos saved on a flashdrive. Went through one by one and did Insert > Video > Video From File > [Select File]
2. Tried saving as both a .pptx and as a Powerpoint Show (heard this could help)
3. When I moved the .pptx or .ppsx file to a new computer, the videos would not play. I would always get a message that I needed to "upgrade" whenever I tried to play the media, which when I clicked it, it just said that the media was not found on the PC. (OH, and yes, it is 2010 office on the new computer as well)
4. Oddly, whenever I moved the folder of videos to the desktop of the new computer, the videos would miraculously work. It doesn't even make sense because I can't imagine how the pathing would find the videos on the desktop when I initially embedded them from a flashdrive.
So basically, I am wondering what I am doing wrong. The whole idea is so I don't HAVE to keep moving the videos around. I want them all embedded into the big powerpoint files. Am I stupid, or is this really weird?
Thanks in advance! Any questions just let me know!
