Page numbers and cetera
What you need is sections, defined by section breaks. Each section can have its own formatting, and a section can be set to have a different first page. If you have not worked with sections before, look them up and read carefully. They're not difficult to create, but there are a few aspects which are not self-evident. Note the following:
1. It is the section break which FOLLOWS a section, i.e., at the end of the section, before the next, which contains the formatting for the preceding section, just as the final paragraph mark in a single-section document (a plain, unsectioned document) contains all the formatting commands in the document.
2. In 2007, the section break you need is on the Page Layout tab. You do not want a mere page break, as on the Insert tab. You want the Section Break, Next Page.
3. If you click on the blue Page Setup link at the bottom of the Page Layout tab, and then the Layout tab of the dialogue box, you;ll find the Different first page check box, and, below, the Apply to, in which you want Entire document.
I hope this does the trick for you.
