WORD 2000 problems
For sometime now many of my WORD 2000 documents will not open after they have been dragged and dropped to a folder? I cut and paste documents when I want to move one now, and that works great.
But the many documents that I still am unable to open, or delete, are still there. When I do try to open one I get a blank WORD page with as popup that states that 'the document name or path is not valid. It suggests to 1 Check permissions, and 2 Try the Open File option...neither helps.
I have un-installed and re-intalled OFFICE, but that did not help.
Also, I am considering upgrading to a later version of OFFICE (just for Home use), and would appreciate any suggestions. I have been looking at Office 2007, 2010, and 2013, and reading about the pros & cons. Office 2000 meets my needs (when it works), but maybe it's time for an upgrade?
I am running Windows 7 64 bit.
3/27/13 UPDATE:
I was finally able to resolve all of my problems by doing the following:
1. I did some research and ended up downloading the free Shareware called Kingsoft Office, it runs much like MS WORD 2007 and earlier...and seems to be seamless with all of my Word documents...so far I really like it...and it's FREE. Plus I also get their version of Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
2. For those remaining documents that still would not open I did the following:
I clicked on Properties of each such document, went to Security, then to Advanced, then to Change Permissions, then ADD, Selected Object Type as Users Only, Selected Location as Home PC, then went to the next box (Check Name) and typed in
HOME, then selected Full Control, then APPLY, then OK, OK, that made the changes necessary to give me full Control of each document. It's kind of a hassle, but if I do each document as needed it should be OK. As long as I do a CUT and PASTE for
each document I want to move them in the future there should be no more such problems.
Hope my experience may help someone else. I see a lot of posts out there of those with the same problem!
Best!
