Iam trying to make a document with 3 sections. Middle section has the actual content that is several pages long. First section is just an introduction and table of contents generated by word, preferably with roman numerals as page numbers. Last section should not have any page numbers at all.
I first break the document to 3 sections by going to page layout (page setup)/break /continous ( 5th option).

I then try to number the middle sections with arab numerals starting from 1. So I go to the first page of the second section
Insert (headers and footers) /pagenumbers/page end
After the number appears in the footer, I go to the
headers and footers / format numbers and select page number start as 1
and does not change and it remains as 5.

I finally create the table of contents using the references tab.It does not show page number the way it should be. All of this complicated by the fact that this version of word is in german and I’m not very proficient in that language. Please help.
