I wonder if you have checked to see if the text itself has shading on it. Highlight one paragraph of the shaded text, open the paragraph-formatting dialogue, select the Borders and Shading tab, and see if that's the culprit.

Otherwise, can you post a relevant bit of the table? I bet we can figure it out.
