Word 2003: Do you want to save changes always popping up
Using Word 2003, every time I try to close a document it asks if I want to save changes. It doesn't matter what I do with the document - even if I don't click inside of the document at all it still asks if I want to save. So far I've tried:
- Looking at macros as the culprit, but this happens even in a new and totally blank document. If I start a new document and close it without typing anything that's the only time it doesn't ask. However if I save that blank document and re-open it, it will then show the prompt the next time I close it.
- Changing the "smart" tag features - I turned them off by unchecking "label text with smart tags". I tried to uncheck "Embed smart tags" but it will not save that change which makes me suspect smart tags.
- Clicking "yes". Since I upgraded from Word 2000 I thought allowing it to save would update the format of these files and solve the problem, but it doesn't. After I discovered that the problem applies to new documents created in 2003 that hypothesis turned out to be irrelevant anyway.
So I've tried about everything I can think of or that I've been able to find in forums like this one. I have all the updates from the Office site installed, including SP2. I appreciate any help anyone can offer.
Thank you,
Alan
