Auto Save, and Recover unsaved->Not working

I have my options in Word 2010 set to save autorecover information every 10 min.

Had been away from computer for hours, apparently didn't save, and my wife closed Word and said NO when asked if she wanted to save

I thought, oh well, it should be auto saved.

No dice.

Any thoughts?
