Control
What you may be looking for is a Paste Special feature, Paste Unformatted. When copied text is pasted ths way, it inherits the properties of the Style of the receiving paragraph (which may be a "blank" paragraph, just the paragraph mark. If that is set with widow and orphan control, you copy will inherit it.
If you're not familiar with Styles, you may need to look them up. In essence, everything in Word has a Style, which is a group of properties -- characteristics -- such as font, size, spacing, etc. Orphan and widow control are among these.
Paste special is available on Home tab when you press the Paste button down arrow.
Hope this helps.
