Unhappy keyboard shortcuts in powerpoint 2010

Hi,
Here is the problem. I create handouts from the notes in my powerpoint slides. I want to include blanks from time to time so that the students can write down key points as I talk. I need to remind myself where the blanks are so I can slow down and emphasize the points while the students write. Since I can't even do simple things like bold the text to remind me where the blank is (doesn't show up in presenter view) I have had to come up with a very laborious workaround. I maintain two versions of every lecture (one for presentation one for notes). I insert the blanks in the notes version and then insert symbols in the presentation version to remind me where the blanks are. I also convert the notes to point form in the presenter view since it is easier to read during lectures. Since bullets don't work either I need to insert my own bullet symbols manually. (note: I generally use pictures in the powerpoint slide and keep the text in the notes region. I find students pay attention more when the text isn't simply on the slide)

To make a long store short is there any way to create keyboard shortcuts to insert symbols, lines or short pieces of text in powerpoint? I have to go to insert, symbol, etc. each time and it takes a really long time! Thanks. Tom
