Default updating not completed tasks or 0% tasks

when updating my schedule i first updated my data date

(by the way i also checked off the split in progress tasks under options>schedule as i dont want the split to show)

so after updating my data date i went into tools>tracking>update project

i selected schedule incomplete tasks to start after, for the entire project, after the data date. and it immediately pushed the 0% tasks after my current data date. upto this point, i am ok.

but for an activity which was ongoing and 40% complete, it left the incomplete portion of that activity as it is, in the past. wihtout pushing the incomplete portion of it after the current date. so it left its finish date in the past now, although it is still showing the same %40. it made no change whatsoever to that bar. which is wrong. a 40% complete task can not finish in the past. i wanted it to push the remaining duration beyond my current data date but it didnt. how can i extend the ongoing activities incomplete portion also extend automatically, leaving remaining duration the same after data date, just as it pushes the 0% activities after data date by leaving their duration the same?

or after pushing 0% activities do i need to individually go into activities in progress and update them one by one?
