Default White lines in exported PDF

I created a Word document (2010, Windows) with formatted tables. I save this document as a PDF. When I view the PDF in Adobe Reader, it looks fine, but when I view it in Mac's Preview program, white lines are added to the table headers and footers. Here are screenshots of what I mean:

Here's what I know about the issue. A lot of people seem to have experienced a similar problem when exporting a PDF from Indesign. The solution seems to be unchecking an option about flattening the PDF when exporting. The lines are thus caused by antialiasing that doesn't get flattened properly. Unfortunately, there's no PDF options when exporting from Word, so I'm out of luck.

A partial solution is to edit Preview's preferences (turn off antialiasing under the PDF menu), but this is unsatisfactory because (1) it makes all the text look bad, and (2) I need the document to appear optimal for everyone on any platform, whether or not they've adjusted their settings.

Another partial solution has been to export the doc file on a Mac with Word 2011. Then the lines disappear in Preview, though (1) this solution adds new render problems with the document's embedded EPS images, and (2) this is not the workflow we want at my company.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
