In case it should still be relevant, you can select in the source document, remove the numbering (as suggested in a post above) by choosing Format/Numbering and selecting None (keyboard shortcut Alt+O,N for the dialogue), copying the selection and pasting.

Either before or after pasting, you can return the numbering to the source doc, either by pressing Ctrl+Z, using the toolbar/ribbon icon, or simply closing the source doc without saving the change.
