Word 2003 does not have the ? on the top left. It does have Help, though, which can be reached using the F1 key. Highlight, though, in Word jargon means marking particular text with a color overlay.

I think the question here is about selecting text in non-contiguous areas of the document.

You do this by first selecting some text, then, holding down the Ctrl key and moving the selection point with the mouse, select additional areas. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/275969
