Default Word 2010 Shapes

I create online help in HTML from Word, and one of the things I need is consistent formatting so the entire project has the same look and feel.

I just discovered that shapes changed in Word 2010, which we just upgraded to this week. This would only be a small problem, not a major one, EXCEPT that the new shapes do not display well in HTML. I'm not a graphics expert so I don't know why they wouldn't, but they don't. They are ragged around the edges and look like the resolution is about 50% of the old shapes. In fact, they look less like a solid color shape than a rough textured cloth (frayed at the edges) when I import the document and view the shapes in HTML. (I did NOT select a texture when I set the defaults).

Here's what's truly bewildering. When I create a new document I can access the shape screen that displayed in Word 2007, with the higher resolution shapes. I insert them, and set the default color for the shapes in the document. As soon as I switch to a customized color theme, the bad shapes replace the good shapes in the document. The 2010 shape display replaces the 2007 shape display. Even if I switch back to a default color scheme, the bad shapes remain.

And then when I try it again with another new document and do a Save As, the bad shapes come back - this time in the wrong color - even after I set the defaults to the old shape style and a specific color when the document was still unsaved.

On one occasion I just did a "Save" instead of "Save As" and when I imported the document into the online help application, the shape didn't display at all. Poof.

I would like to understand what is controlling these things so I can get a handle on them. Can someone please help?
