Default

Expanding on the three headers/footers available to each section.

If you edit the header footer for a section without doing anything else, you will have just one header or footer for that section.

If you choose to have a different first page, the header/footer you just edited becomes the continuation header/footer and you type in a new one for the first page or leave it blank.

If you choose to have different even and odd headers/footers, your original header /footer becomes the odd page header/footer, but begins on page three if you have selected different first page.

When you have a section break, the default action is to continue your headers/footers from the previous section. You can change this by clicking on "Link to Previous." Here are two views of the Header/Footer toolbar showing the Page Setup button where you can change the number of headers/footers, and of the "Link to Previous" button.

Here is a video tutorial: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/wo...001021662.aspx

And you thought writing the thesis was tough!
