Interestingly enough, after unbreaking and uncolumning, the headers and footers were just as I wished them to be. Then I carefully rebreaked everything to 'column-continuous' and 2 columned each set as I went. Didn't work. After undoing everything again, I put it all back together again as 'text wrap-continuous'. Didn't work. Somehow during all this I discovered I didn't need to insert the breaks myself. By simply hiliting what I wanted columned and and selecting '2 columns', MSW put the breaks in for me. It would be a great learning experience now if I could somehow go back and find out what 'Break' style MSW used. I tried hiliting the break lines but nothing read out anywhere. After adding some carriage returns to adjust where the break lines fell on the page, everything is just fine now. Thanks for the help. K.

Any time you insert columns, you insert a section break, often two.
You should be able, in the new section (where you do not want the repeat of the first page header) disconnect the same as previous setting for headers and footers and then change the different first page setting.
