Default Word 2000 would not open
I uninstalled WinZip which was the latest programme I had installed. Problem solved.

WinZip has now informed me that the problem was not with the main WinZip programme but with an evaluation installation available for WinZip Courier which has issues with Word 2000. I have now reinstalled WinZip without Courier. Word 2000 now works fine.
