HELP

im very new to windows 7 so i am not much help to my wife as i am on our xp machine. the issue she is having involves the entire range of office products. while working with a document, the computer will lock up. i will get a blue circle and it just spins until i turn it off and restart. it also hangs anytime she attempts to save.
this is on her computer she uses for work. i don't touch this computer so i cant tell you whats been done to get us here.

what ive attempted are as follows

complete mcaffee scan
malwarebytes scan
system restore (did not correct issue) (also, my system restore shows zero restore points now. there were dozens before)
attempted a repair of office

also. cant find my key any longer for office. it was store bought when we bought the laptop for christmas.

any help you can offer is appreciated
