Stefan, thank you, yes, doing Ctrl-Q on a pasted paragraph does fix most of the formatting problems! Unfortunately, that isn't an ideal solution for our group. But that does, at least, get me closer to the cause of the problem - which has stumped me for months!

I am attaching two docs created off the 2003 (originating) and 2010 (destination) templates. Is there any way to tell what was directly formatted in the ZA1B1, ZA1B2, ZA2B1 and ZA2B2 styles in the 2003 doc? I can't figure it out. Perhaps it's the character choice for the bullets?

If we can identify the source of the direct formatting, I can help them fix the 2003 template - which will eliminate our current workarounds. That would be a HUGE efficiency improvement for us. And thank you for the Ctrl-Q suggestion.
