Default Save as pdf compatibility issues!!

I've been having an issue using the built in "save as pdf" option with Word 2010. It displays fine on my computer, and when I send it via gmail I can "view document" on the google server and it displays fine then too, but, on two occasions, the recipient hasn't been able to see any text, it's all just a gradient blur.

On both occasions the recipient has been using a Mac, and I use a PC, but this really shouldn't matter when Word is writing to a pdf document should it?

The font I use is not natively installed on PC, and Word decides it should be bitmapped instead of saved as an embedded font. If I unselect this option then it only saves half of the text with the imbedded font and the other half bitmapped.

The only text I've used that's native to Windows is Windings (for stars) and this displays fine on the final pdf, as do my jpeg images.

The exact same thing has happened twice and there's nothing on the forums I can find to help out... I've been trying to find a workaround for hours now and nothing seems to fix it... I need to use this specific font as it's a press release for show and the company requires the Melbourne font to be used in their style guide.

Anybody have an idea? Has this ever happened before?
