Autolink only works if you insert a new task between two tasks which are linked in a F to S relationship. If the link is SS, FF, or SF or has been modified by lead or lag it will not autolink.

In what specific scenario are you seeing it not function? i just did a quick test in project 2010 with SP-1 and it works as expected.
