Default Can't install SP1 in Microsoft 2010

After a recent crash I had to reinstall my complete computer. I decided to move from 32-bit to 64-bit Windows7. Then reinstalled my existing Microsoft Office 2010 again. It automatically selected it's 32-bit component and that works fine on my 64-bit OS. Microsoft Update completed all the necessary updates automatically.
But I could not find Office2010 SP1 in the updates. So I downloaded the 32-bit versions manually, first the english-us one, then the nl-nl (dutch) one.
Tried to install it many times.
Always get error the message "the expected version of the product was not found on the system".
How come?
And what to do?
Does it mean SP1 cannot be installed? Or does not HAVE to be installed?

As a related problem for Outlook:
One of my urgent reasons to install SP1 is the mail account behavior in Outlook 2010 now. In the past when I add a new mail account, Outlook automatically created a POP account (or I could select that). Now it only creates IMAP accounts, which I don't want, but I cannot change that selection. Unless I create it manually. How to force Outlook to create POP accounts? Can it be selected after installation of SP1?
What to do on this issue if SP1 simply doesn't want to be installed?

Thanks for helping - but please note I am not a computer expert, just an experienced user.
