Hi Nick,

Restoring from a backup would be an option (you do keep backups, don't you?!). A copy of a thumb drive or email attachment might serve as an alternative if you haven't kept a backup.

The 'funny little box thing' is probably related to your choice of font. Perhaps your document was created with a font that supports Unicode characters and you're now trying to view it in a font that doesn't support them.
